v1.1 Major Overhaul!


The v1.1 major update to World Within Worlds is finally out! Months in the making, there's a massive list of changes to the game, nearly EVERY level and World has been updated in some way. Some changes are minor (like moving an enemy a few pixels to the left to make them line up better for speedrunners), while other changes completely overhaul the level, like this update to World 4;



There may be small bug-fix updates from here on out, but the addition of new Levels will be contingent on player support. To this end, I've created a Bundle with a Sale Goal so you can buy the game, get my Pocket RPG Tileset as a free bonus, and know that you've contributed to further development of World Within Worlds. The game will always be free in-browser so absolutely anyone can enjoy it; solo, or with a partner to help out with the Butterfly. That said, as of writing, only 3 people have purchased the game. By creating a Bundle with a sales goal, I hope players become aware just how many (or few) people are actually supporting ongoing development. Each level in the game (even single-screen ones) takes hours of development and testing. I'd love if, someday, the sales of games like this one would allow me to create my own games full time, so this current bundle/sales goal is but the first small step towards that endeavor. For those who can't afford to purchase the game, don't forget that sharing it with friends who you think will enjoy the game is a great way to help.

For those curious, here's the full list of all changes in this version;

  • Level Adjustments to make them more speed-run friendly;
    • Major rebuild of level 1-2 and World 4
    • Partial rebuild of levels 1-3, 4-1, 4-4, 5-4, World 2, and World 5
    • Minor tweaks to levels 1-4, 1-5, 2-1, 2-3, 2-4, 2-5, 3-4, 4-3, 5-3, and 5-5
  • Movement updates;
    • Wall-jump can be performed when you are 1-3 pixels away from a wall (you no longer need to be flat against the wall)
    • Added "Slide" option to Wall-cling behavior which no longer reduces your speed when making contact with a wall
    • Hitting jump when you are touching the wall but very close to the ground now performs a vertical jump instead of a wall-jump
  • Updated Tutorial text
  • Added version number to title / credits screen
  • New Text Boxes (shown at a distance)
    • Level Gates show their Level Index
    • World Trees show how many leaves you have collected and show which World they lead to
    • Checkpoints show the number of Leaves collected
  • Increased Collision volume of Golden Leaves
  • Bouncing off of the heads of Curl-Ups launches you higher than the rest of their bodies
  • Bug Fixes;
    • It was possible to accidentally trigger a full-height jump if you pressed and released the jump button on the single frame where you hit the ground
    • Releasing the jump button after traveling through a Portal no longer cuts your upward speed
    • Laser can no longer kill player when it is frozen by the Butterfly
    • Falling enemies no longer accumulate vertical speed when frozen by the Butterfly
    • Ghost Blocks halt their animation when frozen by the Butterfly
    • In-game-time measurement is now much more accurate
    • Custom Color palette is loaded on Title Screen
    • When a Curl-Up un-curls, the player will now bounce off of them
    • Title screen properly reflects palette choice in HTML5
